English Course for Senior 50+ students

Learn a language in the company of peers from your generation with our Club 50+ Programme in Galway.

The 50+ course in Galway is designed for mature students who want to improve and combine their language skills with an activity programme suited to their specific tastes and needs.

The programme includes exciting language practice and various cultural and social activities focusing on Ireland’s famous heritage.

It is a mixed-ability class with students from Pre-Intermediate (A2) to Upper-Intermediate (B2).

If students fall outside of these categories, they will have the option, if they wish, to join a General English class more suitable to their level, subject to class and level availability.

Lessons emphasise communication, while the activities will help immerse the student in the local culture and history.

Course 50+ objectives

• To maximise the use of English in everyday situations.
• To build students’ confidence in their ability to use English.
• To help you improve your understanding of spoken English.
• To make English study a fun experience.
• It allows you to meet new people and make new friends.

Students will participate in various activities during the 50+ programme in Galway, and a GCI representative will accompany the students during the social agenda. Depending on the type of event, these can take place in the afternoon or evening during the week and a full day at the weekend.

Afternoon Activities

• Welcoming Lunch with GCI staff – a great opportunity to get to know the other participants and GCI staff.
• A walking tour of Galway is a great way to discover the rich history and cultural heritage of Galway.
• Galway Museum – Learn about the city's history and enjoy wonderful views from this cultural hub.
• Visit Katie’s Cottage – step back in time and experience one of Galway’s most popular heritage attractions.
• A half-day trip on the Corrib Princess Boat - enjoy a guided tour of the Corrib Lake & River on the luxurious all-weather Corrib Princess.
• Irish Workshop – learn about the Irish cultural heritage through the following workshops: Irish Dance, Irish Coffee, and Irish Music.
• Certificate Ceremony at the end of the course

Evening Activities

• Pub Night – Discover Galway’s most famous and historic drinking establishments in the middle of Galway’s cultural quarters, and meet and talk with Galwegians and other visitors to Galway City.
• Greyhound racing – Explore the excitement of greyhound racing at this popular venue in Galway City.
• Visit The Cliffs of Moher.
