Types of TOEFL Exam
- Paper Based Test (PBT): The test is done in writing, in paper format. This test is done on paper in centers where the IBT Internet system has not been implemented.
- Internet Based Test (IBT): This test is done with a computer and is the most common format currently. The data is automatically sent to the central office to be evaluated.
Parts of the TOEFL IBT exam
The TOEFL iBT test has 4 parts (reading, listening, speaking and writing) and takes 4.5h. including the initial registration.
- Reading (reading comprehension) lasts between 60 and 80 minutes. The student has to read 3 or 4 passages from academic texts and answer questions.
- Listening (listening comprehension) lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. The student has to listen to lectures, classroom discussions and conversations, then answer questions.
- Break: 10 minutes.
- Speaking (oral expression) lasts 20 minutes. The student has to Express an opinion on a familiar topic; speak based on reading and listening tasks.
- Writing (written expression) lasts 50 minutes. The student has to write essay responses based on reading and listening tasks; support an opinion in writing.
