BULATS (Business Language Testing Service) is a certification developed by the University of Cambridge ESOL.
In the BULATS test, it is not evaluated whether the student reaches or not a certain level (it is not a test that is suspended or approved), but it places the student at the level of linguistic competence that corresponds to him within the scale established by the Framework. Common European Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The BULATS exam is adaptive, this means that the questions are adapted to the candidate's answers (at their level).
The BULATS test lasts 2 hours and consists of three parts that assess the four English skills (Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening).
- The first part of BULATS lasts 60-85 minutes and evaluates reading and listening comprehension.
- The second part of the BULATS lasts 15 minutes and oral expression is evaluated.
- The third part of the BULATS lasts 45 minutes and the written expression is evaluated.
Bulats levels
- A1 Bulats level 0-19: Very limited language management. The candidates of this level know some concrete and isolated expressions, but they can not be communicated in the language.
- A2 Level Bulats 20-39: Very limited use of the language in certain specific situations in the world of work; You can, for example, understand and transmit simple messages.
- B1 Bulats Level 40-59: Effective but limited language management in known and predictable professional situations; You can, for example, participate in routine meetings on already known issues, if it is a simple and objective exchange of information.
- B2 Level Bulats 60-74: Effective language management in familiar work situations; for example, you can participate in a meeting on practical matters, even if you have difficulty following a complex debate.
- C1 Level Bulats 75-89: Good command of the language to participate actively in a certain variety of professional situations; You can, for example, participate effectively in debates and work meetings.
- C2 Level Bulats 90-100: Complete and operational command of the language to intervene with confidence in all situations and professional matters; You can, for example, participate in a debate by contributing and reasoning opinions convincingly.
