Levels of AIL

  • DELI-A1 Elementary level one.
  • DELI-A2 Elementary level two.
  • DILI-B1 Intermediate level one.

  • DALI-C1 Advanced level one.
  • DALI-C2 Advanced level two.
  • DILC-B1 Business examination - Intermediate level.

AIL exam types, content, and duration

DELI (Diploma Elementare di Lingua Italiana). It is equivalent to levels A1 and A2 of the CEFR

The exam lasts 90 minutes and has the following parts.

  • Written comprehension with a duration of 30 minutes. It consists of six small texts with 15 true and false questions.
  • Vocabulary and Grammar with a duration of 15 minutes. It consists of filling gaps with grammatical forms.
  • Oral comprehension lasting 15 minutes. It consists of a short dialogue with 15 expressions and 15 questions with multiple answers.
  • Listening comprehension with a duration of 15 minutes. It consists of answering five questions with varied answers related to 5 short sentences, 3 true and false answers on 3 short texts, and 2 true/false answers.
  • Interview lasting 15 minutes. It consists of an interview with five questions from various situations.

DILI (Diploma Intermedio di Lingua Italiana). It is equivalent to levels B1 and B2 of the CEFR

The exam lasts 180 minutes and has the following parts

  • Written comprehension with a duration of 30 minutes. It consists of two texts followed by ten questions with multiple answers. Written comprehension with a duration of 60 minutes. You need to write a text of 120-160 words followed by four questions with multiple answers.
  • Vocabulary and grammar with a duration of 30 minutes. You have to complete 34 questions.
  • Listening comprehension with a duration of 40 minutes. You must complete six questions based on a newspaper story with multiple answers. You must complete six questions with multiple answers based on dialogue and a text followed by eight identifications.
  • Interview lasting 20 minutes. You need to write a text about an oral part, a conversation with five questions, and a description of several images.

DALI (Advanced Diploma of Italian Language). It is equivalent to levels C1 and C2 of the CEFR

The exam lasts 260 minutes and has the following parts

  • Written comprehension with a duration of 45 minutes. Two texts from a contemporary literature book or newspaper, along with six multiple-choice questions.
  • Written expression with a duration of 90 minutes. You have to complete a conversation and write a letter about a proposal and a text about a current topic.
  • Vocabulary and grammar with a duration of 45 minutes. You have to fill in the gaps of 72 questions.
  • Listening comprehension with a duration of 60 minutes. You have to answer two multiple-choice questions about a dialogue, six multiple-choice questions about an interview, and five true and false answers about a radio program.
  • Interview lasting 20 minutes. You have to read a text from a newspaper, a document, or a book, with a final summary, a conversation with ten questions related to the text, and another conversation related to several images.

DILC and DALC (Diploma Intermedio di Lingua italiana Commerciale y Diploma Avanzato di Lingua italiana Commerciale). It is equivalent to levels B1 and C1 of the CEFR

The exam lasts 235 minutes and has the following parts

  • Written comprehension with a duration of 20 minutes. You have to answer 8 varied questions about an economics text taken from a newspaper or magazine.
  • Written expression with a duration of 90 minutes. You have to write a 400-word abstract text about an economics article, followed by another text of a maximum of 100 words.You have to write a letter and an argument on some subject of the same topic of the article.
  • Business vocabulary with a duration of 45 minutes. You have to fill in gaps and various answers to 48 questions.
  • Listening comprehension with a duration of 60 minutes. You have to complete two multiple choice questions based on dialogue.You have to complete six multiple-choice questions about an interview.You have to complete five true and false answers about a radio program.
  • Interview lasting 20 minutes. You have to read an economics text, make a summary of the text, and have a conversation with ten questions on the same topic.
